Transisi masyarakat belum selesai
sang khalik.
Iwan Effendi Mbok Jamu acrylic on canvas, sapuan komikal pop, jamu tradisional dengan bahan baku makin jarang, pengawasan peredaran lemah, mbok jamu keliling menjadi satu agen jamu instant palsu.

No End Transition Society Before their participation to the exhibition, the issue of the fake medicine was
well known by the five Indonesian artists. How many times, by interest or passion, People have been cheated by policemen, soldier, dukun (traditional healers), or fake doctors? Because modernity and globalization, the traditional society is collapsing. Education, the social system and Social health system become too expensive.
Unemployment is rising, corruption is spreading: lying become common. In response, communities of citizens are growing; an underground culture become widespread: many are hiding and do not follow the dominant system, they try to work and survive otherwise.
Satria Tri Nugraha maps the human body, viewed in the angle of passion and sexuality, as a metaphor of power which is becoming the main pulse in all fields: Tempus (the Latin title means time or time measurement) is a series 15 collages and screen printings which detailed anatomy of the human body. Adhya Santana Ranadireksa, made a diptych (using the C-Print Kodak Endura Met VC photographic process) entitled The Fate # 1 and The Fate # 2 : on the first leaf, a female patient lying on a table, fed by multiple infusions; on the other leaf, a human skeleton. This works is a reflection, tinged with vanity, on the meaning of life and the destiny offered by the afterlife. Mbok Jamu (acrylic on canvas) by Iwan Effendi represents in a comic and pop features, the jamu, a traditional remedy with rare ingredients. Because of the lack of control over its distribution, Mbok keliling jamu (jamu the pedler) becomes instantaneously a fake jamu dealer. The bottles on his back, which were formerly
in ceramics, suddenly transform into plastic bottles that we recognize as the “Aqua” trademark ... The head and body of Mbok are rooted incarnate in a black tree. From the bottles, potions pour and fly, attached by braid ties: monstrous symbol of a pharmacy / pharmacopeia and its queue of customers waiting for their “destiny”.
Finally, with Elegant, clean, disinfected, I paint the stylish reconstruction of the modern human body: cleaned, disinfected, but lifeless, stabbed by the parodic pyramid of the triumphant modernity. Practical and efficient, this work is the optimal result of the modern culture, at the expense of the beautiful nature and noble cultures. Will fear of crisis and global conflict lead us to new era of “les Lumières”?
